Storms Wash Out Weekend Fun Throughout Camden County

Plenty of activities have been canceled or postponed because of the rain and potential for thunderstorms. Here's the latest forecast.

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Plenty of activities are getting canceled or postponed around Camden County because of stormy conditions.

Friday has been a wash so far, with rain already falling and thunderstorms likely, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Forecasters expect showers to continue Saturday, with a chance of thunderstorms.

After a foggy morning, sunny weather will return Sunday, the NWS says. (See the forecast below.)

Clementon Park & Splash World closed on Friday because of the weather. The water park will reopen at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Gloucester Township was set to show "Elf" during Friday's outdoor movie night. But the event has been postponed and will be rescheduled soon, according to the township.

Some Saturday events are getting pushed, as well. The Serve Day Car Wash in Cherry Hill has been canceled because of the potential for inclement weather in the morning and afternoon.

The Lambs Terrace Fire Company in Sicklerville also postponed its "Christmas in July" event until July 27. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday.

A flood watch in Camden County remains in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday. Rainfall rates may exceed 1 to 2 inches per hour. The NWS is forecasting rainfall amounts from about 1 to 2 inches, however, localized amounts near 3 to 4 inches are possible.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations," the flood watch says. "Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded."

Here's the NWS's latest forecast for Camden County:

  • Friday afternoon: Showers with thunderstorms likely. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Near steady temperature in the lower 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.
  • Friday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely in the evening, then showers with a chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Patchy fog. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Humid with lows in the lower 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 90 percent.
  • Saturday: Patchy fog in the morning. A chance of thunderstorms. Showers. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall. Hot with highs in the mid 80s. South winds around 5 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.
  • Saturday night: Partly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Areas of fog after midnight. Humid with lows in the lower 70s. Southwest winds around 5 mph in the evening, becoming light and variable. Chance of rain 50 percent.
  • Sunday: Areas of fog in the morning. Sunny, hot with highs in the lower 90s. West winds around 5 mph.
