APPAC Endorses Imani Oakley for Congress

The American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee seeks to elect community leaders focused on the fight for human rights

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Imani Oakley, who is running a progressive primary campaign in New Jersey’s 10th congressional district, received another national endorsement from the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC), which seeks to elect community leaders focused on standing against bigotry, prejudice, and hate in the fight for human rights.

“I have dedicated my life to standing up against hate in all forms,” said Oakley. “As such, I’m proud to be joining APPAC in the fight to achieve full human rights and equality for the Pakistani community and all oppressed communities across the nation and globally.”

Other endorsees for this round of APPAC’s endorsements include Justice Democrat candidate Rana Abdelhamid (NY-12), and Nida Alam, the first muslim woman elected to public office in North Carolina.Past endorsements include India Walton and Governor Phil Murphy.

A diverse progressive coalition continues to grow around Oakley’s campaign, with endorsements coming in from Brand New Congress, Catch Fire, Elect Black Women PAC, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, Americans for Justice in Palestine Action Fund, West Orange Young Democrats, Harvard Dems, Building Bridges For America, Roadmap for Progress, FutureGen PAC, four local Sunrise Movement hubs, Black Lives Matter PAC, Black Lives Matter activist Zellie Imani, Mt. Rainier Vice Mayor Scott Cecil, Maplewood Mayor Dean Dafis, Muslim community leader and civil rights advocate Selaedin Maksut, former progressive presidential candidate Marianne Williamson, and Palestinian-American community leader Wassim Kanaan.

“It’s time that we root out the bigotry that perpetually plagues our nation,” Oakley said. “As Congresswoman, it will be my honor to work with organizations like APPAC to ensure that we are doing just that.”

Imani Oakley is a long-time political organizer and pro-democracy activist running for Congress in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. The seat covers parts of Essex, Union, and Hudson counties. Her time working in New Jersey political spaces has made one thing clear: our state suffers from rabid corruption.
