CRANFORD, NJ — In the last few years, Hartz Mountain applied to build 905 rental units at 750 Walnut Ave. in Cranford, but some, including a group called Cranford Residents Against Overdevelopment, criticized the project.

The township recently reached a settlement with the Fair Share Housing Center that means they will pursue more affordable housing in the project. The settlement with FSHC calls for 220 to 300 units total, including some affordable housing.

More information is here. More about the history of the project is here.

The township will host a virtual town hall Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. to "update residents about negotiations," they said last week.

Mayor Patrick Giblin, Deputy Mayor Prunty, and Township Attorney Ryan Cooper will host the town hall.
