Fossella wins the Boys Sectional Shot Put Championship

Boys team places 5th, the Girls team places 6th in North 2, Group 3 State Sectional Championship

The Cranford High School Winter Track and Field team was well represented in the North 2, Group 3 State Sectional Championship Meet on Saturday. The Boys team placed 5th while the Girls team placed 6th. There were a total of 26 personal bests set at this competition!

The teams were led by sophomore Ben Fossella who is the N2, G3 Boys Sectional Champion in the Shot Put. He set a personal best of 45’ 01.75” exceeding his previous best by more than 5 feet. Senior Ariel Hsu placed 2nd in the Girls Shot with a personal best of 29’ 11.25” while sophomore Kristen Fries placed 5th. Paige Conrad (Sr), Tom McCarthy (Soph) and Ryan Turnamian (Soph) all had personal best performances.
Junior Owen Usinowicz placed 2nd and senior Larry Phanor placed 4th in the Boys Pole Vault, both clearing personal bests of 10 feet. Junior Rose Deeb placed 2nd in the Girls Pole Vault jumping a personal best of 8 feet. Owen had a person best in the 55H while Larry had a personal best in the 400 meters and ran the 55M.
Senior Marcus Shillingford finished 7th in the 55 meters Hurdles running personal best of 8.52 sec. He also finished 7th (PB-5’ 04”) in the Boys High Jump. Adrianna DellaVecchia (Fr) jumped a personal best of 4’ 04” to finish 7th in the Girls High Jump. Danielle Burke (Fr) also jumped a personal best.
In the Girls 800 Meters, sophomore Caitlin Toy ran a personal best of 2:31.73 (9th pl) while senior Kelsey Quinones ran 2:53.67.
Junior Sam Beck (4:49.54), Sean Quinones (Soph), and Travis Thomas (Fr) all ran their best career times in the Boys 1600M. Senior Maggie Furer (5:49.00) and freshman Caitlin Owens (6:02.82) both set personal bests in the Girls 1600M.
In the Girls 55M, Cat Guimaraes set a personal best of 8.41 while freshman Francesca Germano ran 8.94, also a personal best.
The team was represented by sophomores Aiden Nester (PB-2:34.17) and Owen Cumiskey in the 800M, Oliver Duboscq (Jr) in the 400M, Jules Guimaraes (Soph) in the HJ, Will O’Keefe (Soph) in the PV, Isabella Alvares-Gomez (Fr) in the 55H, freshman Brian Espasa (PB-7.19) and soph Todd Titre (PB-7.32) in the 55M, and junior John Attebury (PB-9.00) in the 55H and HJ.
