MONTCLAIR, NJ — Last week, progressive congressional candidate Imani Oakley appeared on a high-profile fundraising broadcast hosted by former Presidential Candidate Marianne Williamson and a star-studded panel of guest co-hosts, including Briahna Joy Gray and Krystal Ball. The broadcast, called the Seize the House Candidate Summit, highlighted a number of progressive congressional primary challengers.

Oakley was a featured guest, answering questions posed live by Pacifica Radio host Julianna Forlano. Other featured guests included Nina Turner (Ohio), Rebecca Parson (Washington), Muad Hrezi (Connecticut), Brittany Ramos DeBarros (New York), and Ruth Luevanos (California). During her segment, Oakley spoke extensively about New Jersey’s corrupt Ballot Line style of voting ballot, as well as the Tammany Hall-style political party machine that controls it.

“It was a real honor to share the virtual stage with so many other dedicated progressives,” said Oakley. “Corporate Democrats simply are not delivering for the people, and watching my fellow progressives offer a positive, people-over-profits alternative gave me a lot of hope, both as a candidate and a citizen. It was particularly powerful to see how many of my fellow progressive challengers are also women of color. To paraphrase the great Shirley Chisholm, we’ve been kept away from the table for a very long time, so we’re all showing up with folding chairs.”
