MONTCLAIR, NJ — Following the Senate’s roll call vote to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson as the newest Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, NJ-10 Congressional Candidate Imani Oakley released the following statement:

“To call this moment ‘meaningful’ is the understatement of the century. As a Black woman and an attorney myself, seeing someone like Justice Jackson take to the highest bench is an inspiration,” said Oakley. “Representation alone is never enough, but Justice Jackson also carries a deep commitment to freedom and justice for all, borne out in her years spent as a public defender and adjudicating trials as a district and circuit court judge. My heart sings for all the young people – and especially young Black women with braids and non-European names – who are currently in school, who now have this exemplary role model to look up to. I know I do.”

Oakley, who is running a progressive primary challenge in New Jersey’s 10th district, is a graduate of the prestigious Howard University Law School, the oldest HBCU law school in the country, and has been endorsed by Elect Black Women PAC, Black Lives Matter PAC, Harvard College Dems, Brand New Congress, Catch Fire, Roadmap for Progress, Building Bridges for America, Future Generations PAC, AJP Action, and many more.
