MONTCLAIR, NJ — Imani Oakley, who is running a progressive primary campaign in New Jersey’s 10th congressional district, continues to pile on endorsements, this one from Peace Action, which has the largest grassroots peace network in the country and seeks to advocate for foreign policy that advances us toward a world free from violence and war.

“Peace Action is excited to be endorsing Imani Oakley in her Congressional run," said Lilly Dragnev, National Engagement and Campaigns Manager at Peace Action, "She knows that people should come before the special interests of the military industrial complex. One million people have died of COVID in the U.S., yet we have underfunded our healthcare systems. Damaging severe weather events caused by climate change are ravaging our communities, yet the defense budget continues to grow. The Pentagon can't even pass an audit, but it receives more of our taxpayer dollars each year. Imani will fight to instead send resources to our communities and to working families, and we look forward to supporting her in that fight."

In the past, Peace Action has endorsed electeds such as Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA43), Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D-MA07), and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY14).

A diverse progressive coalition continues to grow around Oakley’s campaign, with endorsements coming in from Brand New Congress, Catch Fire, Elect Black Women PAC, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, Americans for Justice in Palestine Action Fund, West Orange Young Democrats, Harvard Dems, Building Bridges For America, Roadmap for Progress, FutureGen PAC, four local Sunrise Movement hubs, Black Lives Matter PAC, Black Lives Matter activist Zellie Imani, Mt. Rainier Vice Mayor Scott Cecil, Maplewood Mayor Dean Dafis, Muslim community leader and civil rights advocate Selaedin Maksut, former progressive presidential candidate Marianne Williamson, and Palestinian-American community leader Wassim Kanaan.

“We cannot continue to live in a world where war and violence are the norm, nor where our Black, Brown, and working class communities are seen as expendable, making up a disproportionate number of our military’s front line,” Oakley said. “As Congresswoman, I will work endlessly to ensure a safe future free from the trauma of perpetual warfare, which must involve a multi-pronged approach of both international and domestic policy.”
