Flash Flood Warning For East Brunswick Thursday

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for nearly all of Central Jersey Thursday into Friday, including East Brunswick.

In fact, flooding has already closed two Princeton roadways on Thursday morning as heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the area. The two roads, Quaker Road and Rosedale Road, were closed around 8 a.m. and have since been reopened.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the Princeton-South Brunswick-East Brunswick area Thursday through Friday as scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to hit the area throughout the day.

Some locations that could experience flooding Thursday include New Brunswick, Somerville, Somerset, Edison, East Brunswick, South Brunswick, North Brunswick, Ewing, Middlesex, Princeton, Bound Brook, Manville, Doylestown, Jamesburg, Cranbury, Pennington, New Hope, Hopewell, Rocky Hill and Millstone.

Prepare for flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas.

Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall with a total amount of a quarter and half of an inch possible, according to the NWS.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through 8 p.m. on Thursday. The ground already remains saturated due to Tropical Storm Isaias and streams and creeks are running high. As a result, much of the area is more susceptible to flooding than usual.

Drivers are reminded not to drive through flooded roadways and to "turn around don't drown."
