American Pharoah To Race In N.J. Aug. 2

The Triple Crown winner will race in the Haskell Invitational, the horse's first race since winning the Belmont Stakes.

American Pharoah will race at Mommouth Park in the $1 million Haskell Invitational Aug. 2, the Triple Crown winner’s first start since winning the Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown June 6.

“I’m trying to create one of the best days racing has ever seen for its fans and one that will also fit the prestige that surrounds American Phroah,” Ahmed Zayat, the horse’s owner, told ESPN.com. “I want it to be a great day for everyone that will celebrate racing.”

Zayat, a Teaneck resident, told The Asbury Park Press earlier this week that he wanted a ”festival” at Mommouth Park that would create a weekend horse racing fans would always remember.

If history is any indication, Amercian Pharoah has a great chance at winning the Haskell.

Zayat won the Haskell with Paynter in 2012. Bob Baffert, American Pharoah’s trainer, has won the race a record seven times, including Paynter’s win, The Asbury Park Press reported.

Zayat is expected to retire American Pharoah after the horse races in the Breeders’ Cup Oct. 31.
