BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Jeff Horohonich, a North Jersey coaching legend best known for his program-defining years as the head softball and women's basketball coach at Immaculate Conception High School, in Lodi, has died.

Horohonich holds a special place in the record books of North Jersey high school sports lore, standing as one of the few coaches to record 600 wins in two different sports throughout a storied career. He recorded win number 600 as a basketball coach with Saddle Brook in 2020.

Immaculate Conception High School confirmed his death on Tuesday, and has scheduled a vigil in honor of "Coach H" for Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

"Coach 'H' had such an impact on the players he coached and everyone he worked with throughout his coaching career," schools officials wrote.

"He was a motivating coach and had a tremendous spirit toward life, his IC family, his faith and the coaching of several sports, especially softball and basketball. Horohonich has helped develop many players who went on to play Division I, II, and III college softball and basketball. In fact, at ICHS, one of his most commendable accomplishments was his seven consecutive state championships in softball."

Funeral arrangements, nor a cause of death, have yet to be announced, thought reports say that Horohonich posted to social media recently that he was hospitalized with COVID-19.
