Joel Markowitz, 78, Was A Member Of Fair Lawn Jewish Center

Joel Markowitz, 78, died peacefully in his sleep. He lived in Fair Lawn for 48 years.

Joel Markowitz, age 78, formerly of Fair Lawn, died peacefully in his sleep on July 15.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Markowitz; brother Alan Markowitz of Boca Raton, Fla; brother Robert (sister-in-law Carol) Markowitz of Fairfield, Ind.; daughter Lori (son-in-law Stan) Steinreich of Teaneck; son Gary (daughter-in-law Dina) Markowitz of Honeoye Falls, NY; son Glen (daughter-in-law Judi) Markowitz of Tarrytown, NY; grandchildren Ariella, Rick, Eliana, Joshua, Sarah, Daniella, Sammy and David; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Joel was born in Queens, New York and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School before attending New York University on a track and field scholarship and from where he received degrees in Chemical Engineering.

Joel and his wife Phyllis raised their family in Fair Lawn where they lived for 48 years. He was an active member of the Fair Lawn Jewish Center for many years. Nothing meant more to him than his wonderful family that he was so proud of.
