Richard M. Levy, 68, Former Fair Lawn Police Detective

Richard M. Levy of Lakewood Ranch, Florida passed away on July 13 following a long battle with cancer.

Richard M. Levy of Lakewood Ranch, Florida passed away on July 13 following a long battle with cancer. He was 68 years old. Born in New York City, Richie was raised and grew up in Fair Lawn, NJ where he worked as a Detective for the Fair Lawn Police Department and collaborated with the Fair Lawn Volunteer Fire Department.

In 2004, retirement brought him to Florida where he began a new career in security, first working with Schroeder Manatee Ranch and finally with Sarasota Memorial Hospital where in 2012 he was honored with the Hero Award for meritorious service.

He is survived by his loving wife Cornelia Algmin Levy, his daughters Lisa Levy, Alyson Levy Szczygiel, Rachel Levy and Megan Levy; his brother Larry Levy , his sister Debra Levy Pinkas and his adoring father David Levy. He is predeceased by his mother Bertha Levy who passed in June 2014.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers any donations be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Special thanks to Sarasota Memorial Rehab and Nursing Center for their care and kindness.

Graveside services will be 11 AM Thursday July 16, 2015 at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery, 901 Circus Blvd., Sarasota.
