FAIR LAWN, NJ — A smoky fire significantly damaged a Fair Lawn home Sunday, forcing the residents to move into a hotel for the night, the fire department's public information officer Doug Sadowski said.

"Based on what we saw, we don't think it will be a long displacement," Sadowski said.

Fire crews were dispatched just after 9:30 p.m. to the 30 block of Heywood Avenue, and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the house. The flames were contained to just one room and were quickly extinguished, Sadowski said.
