GALLOWAY, NJ — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Galloway area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Galloway area:

1. Cape-Atlantic Cats: You can give these adorable kitties their forever home thanks to this charity. Visit the Mew To You Resale Shop in Ocean City to buy goods that support the nonprofit.

2. Last Salute: This nonprofit provides late veterans with a grand, ceremonial final tribute to honor their military service for free. It includes a "dignified transfer" of remains which features a cannon firing and a ritual of memorializing the fallen.

3. Literacy NJ Atlantic Cape: All adults should be afforded the opportunity to know how to read and write well, and that's what this nonprofit does. They provide free instruction to adults who need help with reading, writing, math and speaking English.

4. Marine Mammal Stranding Center: Since 1978, this nonprofit has worked to rescue, rehabilitate and release marine mammals like seals and sea turtles. They are the first on the scene when news of a stranded dolphin or whale arises.

5. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlantic & Cape May Counties: Known nationwide, their mission is "To provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever." Founded in 1965, this nonprofit helps more than 200 children in Atlantic and Cape May counties.
