Apartment Fire Displaces Gloucester Township Resident

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A resident was displaced after a fire broke out Tuesday night in a Gloucester Township apartment.

Crews were dispatched just before 9:30 p.m. to Building 900 of the Millbridge Gardens complex (1341 Blackwood-Clementon Rd.). No injuries were reported, but one resident was displaced because of water damage, police said.

Several people had called 911 to report fire on the second floor of the two-story building, according to Camden County IAFF Local 3249. The callers initially stated that occupants were attempting to escape via a balcony. Crews battled the fire and searched for entrapped people, but all occupants had evacuated, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Local police, emergency personnel and fire departments from throughout the township and surrounding communities responded to the incident.

Gloucester Township police said the following:

"This incident serves as a reminder to check your fire suppression systems, including alerts and audible alarm systems, to ensure they are operational. Smoke alarms are a key component of any fire escape plan. When there is smoke, there is fire, which can spread quickly. Working smoke alarms provide early warnings, allowing you to evacuate promptly."
