GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Almost certainly, any very low-flying helicopters seen near electrical wires in the skies over Gloucester Township in the next few weeks will be no cause for concern, a spokesperson for Atlantic City Electric said.

Such aircraft in similar positions in the sky have previously caused some residents to worry in other parts of New Jersey, according to the Glassboro Police Department.

However, Candice Womer, a senior communications specialist for Atlantic City Electric, told Patch the helicopter most will see near power lines in the near future, as well as the one that likely caused the concern in Glassboro, is part of the company's "infrared flight patrol inspections [of our transmission equipment] that will start at the end of July and continue through August."

By using whirlybirds to conduct the inspections, the company will get a better view of any potential problems with its transmission equipment, which in turn allows the company to provide better service to customers, Atlantic City Electric said on its website.

Neither a specific flight schedule indicating when the helicopter might fly over Gloucester Township nor a picture of the specific helicopter being used was not available at the time of the Patch interview, she said.
