Motorcyclist Airlifted To Hospital After Serious Crash In Somerset County

FRANKLIN, NJ — A motorcyclist was airlifted to an area hospital with a serious head injury following a crash in Franklin Township.

On Thursday at 7:36 p.m., the Franklin Township Police Department got a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle near 5 Manville Causeway, near Weston Canal Road.

A 31-year-old man from Bound Brook was found injured and officers from the Franklin Township, Manville, South Bound Brook and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department performed lifesaving efforts, said Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather.

Care was then turned over to emergency medical services and New Jersey State Police's NorthStar helicopter was requested.

The helicopter took the motorcyclist to a local area hospital for treatment of a serious head injury. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, said Maeweather.

The factors that contributed to the crash are currently under investigation by the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

A section of the Manville Causeway was closed for around three hours as a result of the motor vehicle crash.

Maeweather said there is an ongoing investigation into the serious motor vehicle crash.
