HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A special assembly marked the final event of a year long celebration to honor the 50th birthday of Woods Road Elementary School was held on June 1.

During the assembly, students sang a song called “Celebrate Good Times,” sung to the tune of “Celebration.” Attendees were able to watch a video that took them on a trip from 1967, when the school opened, to today with pictures showing past student activities compared to today’s activities.

Then the students began to dance through the decades.

Each grade was assigned a decade and a special dance from that time period. The preschoolers did the Twist, while the third graders declared it to be the 90’s and “Hammer Time."

To commemorate the school’s 50th birthday celebration, all those in attendance were invited to decorate a mural with their thumbprint. Once completed, the mural will be hung in the hallway outside of the music room of Woods Road Elementary School.

“Certainly our world has changed since 1967, but our values and dedication to education have not changed,” stated Principal Jodi Howe. “At Woods Road, we see students displaying their character each day, dedicated staff who support every student and their peers, and we are truly able to say that Woods Road School is a great place to be!”
