September Of Hell? Lincoln Tunnel Crash Diverts Buses, And Then Trains Are Suspended

A Lincoln Tunnel crash rerouted buses to train stations Tuesday morning, and then some NJ Transit trains were suspended due to wiring.

NORTH JERSEY — "Incidents" including a crash in the Lincoln Tunnel on Tuesday morning caused some New Jersey commuter buses to be diverted to local train stations — and then, around 10 a.m., NJ Transit said that Amtrak wiring issues had caused the suspension of trains into Penn Station.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced around 7:30 a.m., "The Midtown Bus Terminal for Departures/Arrivals is experiencing delays due to earlier incidents in Lincoln Tunnel Center Tube."

WPIX 11 said a motorcycle crash in the tunnel before 4 a.m. was among the incidents. The New York Post reported that a bus later became disabled outside the tunnel on the New Jersey side.

Rail Service Suspended

NJ Transit announced around 10 a.m. that issues with the Amtrak wiring in the tunnels had caused rail service into Penn Station to be suspended.

(Amtrak said in late June that it's working with NJ Transit to offer more reliable service.)

News helicopters could be heard hovering over Hoboken throughout the morning on Tuesday.

"Super fun commute on NJ Transit," wrote one rider. "2+h delays on bus, took train istead. Here I stand with thousands of ppl waiting for train diverted to Hoboken because there's no trains into Penn. But thanks for the free week when we were all on vacation Phil Murphy."
