HOLMDEL, NJ — Bookstore devotees can now explore a new Barnes & Noble site. The company announced the relocation of its Holmdel bookstore to a new - but nearby - spot is almost ready, with an opening date of Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The new Barnes & Noble is located at 2130 Route 35, Holmdel, in the Commons at Holmdel Shopping Center, situated between Old Navy and Best Buy, in the space formerly occupied by Modell’s, a company news release says.

Barnes & Noble will close its previous location in the same mall after 21 years of bookselling as its lease comes to an end.

The new bookstore is to occupy 18,000 square feet of space and will house a B&N Café, the company said.

It will officially open to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on Nov. 30.

Author Annie Silvestro will be cutting the ribbon on opening day and signing copies of "Sugar and Spice and Everything Mice."

“We are very pleased to continue uninterrupted what has been a happy 21 years of bookselling in the Commons at Holmdel. We move across the parking lot and have the opportunity to showcase how far bookstore design has advanced in 21 years,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble.

“We are to open a truly stunning and completely redesigned new bookstore. The experienced bookselling team in Holmdel, led by store manager Matt Siciliano, has been hard at work getting their new store ready for the holiday season.”

The new bookstore is part of the "recent renaissance" at Barnes & Noble, which has been opening new stores at an unprecedented rate, the company said.

Having only opened one or two stores each year during the decade after 2009, Barnes & Noble has opened 16 new bookstores this calendar year. It has announced development plans for over 30 new bookstores for 2023.

“We are so glad to be moving such a short distance and to such a beautiful new bookstore. Twenty-one years is a long time and, aside from a few feelings of nostalgia, we could not be more pleased to have this level of investment in a new Holmdel bookstore. Happily, we will maintain our status as the community bookstore hub which is such a great gathering place for author signings, events and story times for the youngest bunch,” said store manager Siciliano, a Barnes & Noble Bookseller of 12 years.

“Our team of tenured booksellers has been eagerly stocking our shelves with the books we know the community will love. Our excitement level is at an all-time high, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone in.”
