Flooding, Outages From Storm Reported In Hazlet, Holmdel

Road closures, flooding reported in Holmdel and Hazlet from overnight storm; Holmdel schools closed on Monday.

HAZLET-HOLMDEL, NJ — The Holmdel-Hazlet area experienced several incidents related to the overnight storm Monday morning, although conditions improved throughout the day.

Hazlet police reported Route 35 in Hazlet was closed in both directions at about 7:30 a.m. due to a downed power line.

The power line was down near Hazlet Avenue across the highway near Starbucks, but police said no units were assigned to the area as of 9:30 a.m. Monday. The traffic signal at Route 36 and Laurel Avenue was also reported out on Monday.

In Holmdel, police reported multiple road closures due to trees and wires down and flooding. Power is out in scattered areas as well, Holmdel police said.

Road flooding prompted the closing of Holmdel district schools on Monday after Village School was not accessible, the district announced.

The JCP&L outage map showed outages in Holmdel and Hazlet, with Marlboro, Freehold and Howell hit hardest, JCP&L said Monday. Spokesman Chris Hoenig said there were 11,000 customers without power in the entire county.
