Hazlet Police Mark Passing of Retired Lieutenant Broderick

The Hazlet Police Department is mourning the death of retired Lt. Michael Broderick, who died on Dec. 21.

HAZLET, NJ — Retired Hazlet Police Lt. Michael Broderick, who passed away in North Carolina Dec. 21 at age 73, is being remembered by the Hazlet Police Department.

"We are thankful for all of his years of dedicated service to the Township of Hazlet, and we keep his family in our thoughts during this difficult time," the department said in a social media post.

Broderick started his career with Hazlet Police on Sept. 6, 1977. While serving the residents of Hazlet, he spent several years working on investigations in the Detective Bureau before being promoted to sergeant in approximately 1988.

He was later promoted to lieutenant and spent time as a detective lieutenant and also a lieutenant in the Patrol Division, the information from the department said.

Broderick retired on Feb. 1, 2006 after serving more than 28 years.
