Bicyclist Killed In Monmouth County Crash

A 65-year-old Holmdel resident was pronounced dead following a crash that happened Monday morning, prosecutors said.

HOLMDEL, NJ — A Holmdel man was killed in a bicycle crash Monday, officials said. The circumstances behind the crash are under investigation, said Mark Spivey, a spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m., when Holmdel Police responded to a 911 call from the area of Bethany Road and Galway Drive.

The road was closed shortly after due to an accident involving a pedestrian.

The bicyclist, a 65-year-old male resident of Holmdel, was transferred to a local hospital after the collision, where Spivey said he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained on the scene, according to prosecutors.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, officials said no criminal charges or motor vehicle summonses have been issued in connection with this incident.

The crash is being investigated by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and the Holmdel Police Department.
