Holmdel Closes Schools On Friday

The Holmdel district announced it will close schools, after-school activities Friday due to the forecasted snowstorm.

HOLMDEL, NJ — Holmdel schools will be closed on Friday, Superintendent Dr. J. Scott Cascone announced on the district website Thursday night.

"After careful consideration and collaboration with the Holmdel Office of Emergency Management, the decision has been made to close our school district for tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 19," the post said.

Weather reports indicate an upgraded "winter storm warning" with the potential for 6 to 8 inches of snow in our area. The forecast predicts snowfall starting at 4 a.m. and continuing until 10 p.m., Cascone said.

"While the safe arrival of students and staff to our schools is not deemed unreasonable, the unpredictable road conditions at the time of an early dismissal pose a challenge," Cascone said.

He said the announcement aims to give families time to make necessary arrangements for child care and other considerations.

As a result of the school closure, all after-school and evening activities for Jan. 19 are also cancelled.

According to Patch, up to 6 inches of snow are expected alongside treacherous driving conditions. and possible school closures.

Snow mixing with rain will be “possible along the southern coastal areas during the morning through early afternoon,” the National Weather Service said.
