HAZLET, NJ — Hazlet police had "multiple calls" Tuesday morning about a man either entering or attempting to enter cars and garages, police said.

The person was not apprehended or identified further at this time, according to the police report.

But it prompted authorities to remind residents to call police immediately if they spot suspicious activity. Never confront a person lurking by your car or garage - they could have a weapon, police said.

Here are some tips from the Hazlet Township Police Department:

  • Keep your vehicle and house doors locked. It is the first defense against these crimes.
  • Report any suspicious activity right away.
  • Do not approach suspicious people. Watch and get a good description to give to police; you never know if they come armed with a weapon.
  • Always take a moment to ensure your vehicles and doors are locked and all valuables are secured every time you park your car, whether at work, school, home, or at the store.

Police also said that calling police immediately is important.
