NEW JERSEY - Cheers! National Beer Day is Thursday, April 7, celebrating when President Franklin D. Roosevelt reversed prohibition in the United States in 1933.

Prohibition began in 1920, banning the sale, production, import, and transport of beverages with more than 0.5 percent alcohol. The 1933 Cullen-Harrison act legalized wine and beer with a low alcohol content — 3.2 percent, historical records say.

Now, National Beer Day is celebrated across the U.S. every April 7. Whether you prefer a lager, ale, stout, gose, or another type of brew, there's something for everyone at one of these top-rated breweries in the state, per beer blog HopCulture:

In recent decades, craft beer has become a popular choice for New Jersey residents. Craft breweries in the United States date back to the late 1970s, the first opening shortly after President Jimmy Carter signed legislation that made home-brewing legal in 1978.

Although craft beer's presence continues to grow, it still hasn't quite cracked the top five in popularity. According to a survey by the marketing and analytics company Top Agency, large brands like Budweiser and Heineken still remain the most popular choices among Garden State drinkers.

The most popular beer in New Jersey though is Miller Lite, the 4.2 percent ABV American light pilsner sold by Chicago-based company Molson Coors. See the full top five list of beers in New Jersey, according to Top Agency, below:
