NEW JERSEY - A minor snowstorm could bring plummeting temperatures and up to a few inches of snow to parts of New Jersey just in time for Sunday’s big game.

The National Weather Service released updated snow estimates Friday morning, with between 1 and 2 inches of snow expected for most of South Jersey and the Jersey Shore on Sunday. Less than an inch of snow is predicted to accumulate in the northern portion of the state.

Sunday may likely see temperatures in the 20s with snowfall starting in the early morning.

“Below normal temperatures are expected Saturday night through Tuesday,” the National Weather Service said in a Friday morning forecast discussion.

While the snow is expected to subside by Sunday night, the storm is likely to bring some lingering travel issues Sunday into Monday, AccuWeather says. Meteorologists from AccuWeather predict between 1 and 3 inches of snow in central and southern New Jersey, “mainly on non-paved surfaces.”

Monday’s forecast remains chilly, with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens. It’s a quick freeze that will cause untreated slushy and wet surfaces to freeze, according to AccuWeather.

“Whether a location picks up a coating of snow with wet roads or a few inches of snow and slush, icy conditions are likely to develop Sunday night and last into the Monday morning commute,” the service said.
