Record-Setting Highs, Showers Expected In NJ Thursday

NEW JERSEY - Enjoy the fleeting warm weather while you can, New Jersey: forecasters expect chillier temperatures to slam the state over the weekend.

Thursday is predicted to see temperatures rise into the 60s and low 70s, with wind gusts between 10 to 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service. There’s also a chance for rain showers late this afternoon and into the evening, as well as overnight showers before 5 a.m. on Friday.

“This is the last warm day expected for a while, as after today, day time highs are expected to be mostly in the 40s and 50s through mid week next week,” the National Weather Service said in a Thursday statement.

Expected highs in New Jersey include:

  • Atlantic City: 67
  • Morristown: 66
  • Newark: 69
  • New Brunswick: 69
  • Paterson: 67
  • Seaside Heights: 67
  • Trenton: 70

Windy conditions are also expected on the Delaware Bay and surrounding coastal waters Thursday night.

Per News12 New Jersey, showers are expected to start around 8 p.m. and should exit the state by 2 a.m. No severe weather or thunderstorms are predicted.

However, Friday will see a shift in weather with temperatures to drop overnight into the 30s and remain around the 40-degree mark. The silver lining: sunny skies are expected, although wind gusts up to 30 mph may make the day feel colder.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 72. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday Night: Rain showers before 5 a.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Low around 39. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 47. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.
