Stewart’s Root Beer Of Hazlet Set To Close Tuesday

HAZLET, NJ – Beloved fast food restaurant Stewart’s Root Beer Of Hazlet is slated to close next week, according to a Facebook post from the establishment.

The first Stewart’s opened in 1924 in Mansfield, Ohio by Frank Stewart. The Route 36 location, which has served the community for over a decade, will be closing permanently on Sept. 8.

“It’s a sad time as I have been here almost 11 years. We have served our community well and unfortunately it’s time to move on,” wrote the restaurant on Thursday. “I hope everyone gets a chance to come in one more time before we close.”

According to the post, the burgers-and-fries joint will be selling all equipment and leftover products.

“If anyone is interested or knows anyone, please have them contact [owner] Jeff DeBlasio ASAP,” the message concluded.

The drive-in franchise, which touts 20 sites throughout the state and 30 locations nationwide, serves as the latest victim of the coronavirus pandemic. Pizza Hut, Zinburger and Panera Bread chains also recently announced location closures.

A Stewart’s location on Route 79 in Matawan is still open.
