HAZLET, NJ — The Raritan High School Marching Band is presenting its third annual Motoring for Music 3 fundraiser this Sunday, May 7.

Turnout has been great the first two years, and the band is hoping for more of the same this Sunday, organizers say.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Raritan High School, 419 Middle Road. The rain date is May 13, a Saturday.

And supporting the marching band has special meaning right now.

The band is one of only 10 in the country to be chosen to perform in Normandy, France at ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Allied landing in Europe during World War II.

D-Day, June 6, 1944, marked the Allied invasion of German-occupied France and the beginning of the liberation of Europe from the Nazis.

The anniversary event isn’t until June 2024, but fundraising is already underway, Band Director Raymond Lahaye says.

You can see lots of news about the band and its activities at its Facebook site.

The event Sunday is free to spectators and features live music, food trucks, vendors, raffles and trophies for many categories.

Much of the parking lot is covered by solar panels so the event also affords a lot of shade for our participants, organizers say.
