1 Dead In Sussex County Crash Involving Police Car: AG

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office is investigating the crash that happened Monday in Franklin, officials said.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — A woman is dead after the car she was riding in collided with a police patrol vehicle in Franklin on Monday, authorities said.

The crash happened near the intersection of State Route 23 and Walsh Road shortly after 10:40 a.m., New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said in a news release. According to Platkin, the collision involved an on-duty Franklin police officer driving a department vehicle and a civilian car.

A female passenger in the car suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, officials said. She was taken to Morristown Medical Center, where she died hours later.

The male driver of the car was treated and released, officials said. The police officer also suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Officials did not release the names of the victim or police officer involved in the collision.

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office will investigate the crash and determine if any charges will be filed.
