Bear Spotted Crossing The Road In Hopatcong

He had a garbage bag in tow, police said.

HOPATCONG, NJ— Spring brings sunshine, higher temperatures and, in some parts of the states, bears.

"Time to move the garbage inside, the bears are out," Hopatcong Police posted on Facebook, warning residents that the animals are back for the season.

A bear was spotted crossing the road near the Rite Aid on Hopatchung Road with a large bag of garbage in tow. A driver scared the bear, who dropped the garbage and ran off.

Police moved most of the garbage off the road.

Bears are known to root through garbage cans and bags if they smell something they want. Police suggest moving garbage cans inside to keep them safe.
