HOPATCONG, NJ - The signs should be up soon in the Hopatcong Dog Park, which is opening up in the near future at Jefferson field.

The park, with separate areas for large and small dogs, is one step closer to its opening day following Hopatcong Borough Council’s last meeting, with $15,000 earmarked for it from the borough’s Open Space Recreation Trust, which the council voted unanimously for.

Borough Administrator Ron Tappan followed commentary from Councilman Bradley Hoferkamp on the status of the dog park, Tappan saying the borough’s joint insurance fund was pleased with the dog park rules and regulations he’d sent to them.

“They were very happy with the way we did that, how it looks, how big it was and how illustrative it was,” Tappan said.

Once the park is complete, with the rules and regulations in place, Tappan said the joint insurance fund will come to the park for a final walkthrough.

Hoferkamp also said Eagle Scout candidate Aidan Poland with Hopatcong Boy Scout Troop 88, is fundraising for his Eagle Scout project, which is to create two obstacle courses for each of the parks within the dog park, one for the park for small dogs and the other for the larger dogs. He plans to mobilize volunteers to help construct the courses, as well as two benches, one bench for each park. To view his GoFundMe page, click here.
