HOPATCONG, NJ - He was terrified, tied to a pole and abandoned. But his stray hold is over and "Finn" is looking for a home.

In a week's time, no one has come forward or has any information as to who this dog belongs to. He is not neutered and does not have a microchip," officials at the Hopatcong Animal Shelter said.

After a week of having him, they decided to name him Finn.

Finn is approximately 10 months to one year old and the Shelter employees said they believe he is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever mix.

"Finn is a VERY active dog due to his breed. Finn came in TERRIFIED, but we don’t blame him. We can’t imagine how scared he was being abandoned by the person who was supposed to love and protect him," they said.

Finn loves to zoom around the play yard and play catch for hours, and he also loves water. Finn knows basic commands sit, stay, paw and lay down. Once ready for adoption they will be looking for an active family with a large fenced-in yard.

The Shelter also stressed that what happened to Finn wasn't needed.

"Abandoning an animal in a public place is against the law. It is absolutely unacceptable. Our doors are always open for surrenders and if we do not have the space we will find space at another shelter to help," they said. "Finn could have died that day from heat exhaustion or worse being struck by a vehicle on such a busy road. Abandoning an animal is never the solution call ask for help."

The shelter can be reached at (973) 601-3847.
