‘Freedom Field’ Complete In Sparta’s Station Park

The Sparta Township field was dedicated to men and women from Sparta and beyond who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

SPARTA, NJ — A project to renovate a field in Sparta’s Station Park that began in 2016 has culminated with the recent completion of it and dedication with its name “Freedom Field.”

Mayor Christine Quinn said the project started with work on “Field 3” within Station Park, tucked into Station Road, to upgrade the turf, to install lights, to add bleachers and to construct an announcer’s booth.

After updating the field, Quinn said the Sparta Township Council decided to name the field, choosing its name to honor the men and women of Sparta and beyond, who have committed to serving within all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

“It is with great pride that the transformation of Freedom Field is now complete,” Quinn said, “with the installation of proper signage at the entrance to the field, as well as the announcer’s booth.”

The signs were installed during the week of June 7, she said.

“This in parallel to our Salute 07871 and Hometown Heroes Campaign, reflect the depths of both the admiration and appreciation we have, throughout our community, for the men and women of our military,” Quinn said. “It is something we are extremely proud to announce.”

Sparta’s Salute 07871 program, which was started in 2018, recognizes men and women who live or have lived in Sparta at some point of their lives, for their service in either the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard.
