SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — The first freeze of the season is anticipated to hit Sussex County overnight into the morning hours on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service forecasts a freeze warning for areas including Hopatcong and Sparta kicking in after midnight and winding down in the morning at about 9 a.m., with temperatures plunging overnight to just below freezing at 30 degrees.

Patchy frost is anticipated to be on the ground after 3 a.m. on Wednesday, with the frost remaining until about 10 a.m., as the sun breaks, with a high of 50 during the day on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to hover again at the freezing mark, 31 degrees, on Wednesday night, with the patchy frost coming back after 10 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service reports.

On Thursday, again the frost is expected to stick around before departing around 10 a.m., with a high of 50 degrees for the day and low just above freezing at 32 degrees overnight.

As the weekend returns, the cool weather pattern is anticipated to continue with sunny skies and a high of 47 for Friday in Hopatcong and 50 in Sparta, with the dip back to 32 degrees overnight into Saturday. However, for the weekend, the daytime temperatures will likely rise each day to the low-50s, before the following Monday when they’re supposed to rise to 53 degrees for a daytime high in Hopatcong and 56 in Sparta.
