Guinea Pig Abandoned In Hopatcong, Shelter Needs Public’s Help

HOPATCONG, NJ — Hopatcong’s Animal Shelter is looking to identify a person who left a caged Guinea Pig in front of a resident’s house early Tuesday morning.

The Guinea Pig, who according to a note left behind is an approximate one-year-old Abyssinian variety named “Marbles,” had neither food nor water in its pine-bedded cage, though there was a bag of supplies near the cage. The note however, featured in the Facebook post from the shelter, expressed that Marbles needed care, warmth, “lots of love,” pine bedding and a diet of Timothy Hay and fresh vegetables.

The resident’s Ring camera on Larson Trail where Marbles was left behind at about 4:41 a.m. this past Tuesday, captured a person leaving the Guinea Pig in the home’s front yard, in the video below.

Describing Marbles as a “friendly little guy,” the shelter has asked that anyone with any information contact Hopatcong’s Police Department right away at 973-398-5000.

“Any information on who owned him would be greatly appreciated,” the Hopatcong Shelter wrote.
