Schools Closed In Sparta, Hopatcong Due To Icy Weather

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Sussex County.

SPARTA, NJ — Sparta Township Schools and Hopatcong Borough Schools are closed on Friday due to the icy weather conditions.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Sussex County from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday. Freezing rain is expected with total ice accumulations of a light glaze, according to the National Weather Forecast.

This will create very slippery sidewalks, roads, and especially bridges and overpasses are possible.

Friday: Freezing rain and sleet before 5 p.m., then a chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet. High near 38. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Total daytime ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.

Friday Night: A chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 9. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 30. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the morning.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 17.
