Sparta Police Aid Newton Investigation, Locals Told To Avoid Area

SPARTA, NJ - Sparta police assisted with an investigation Wednesday which prompted a warning for residents to avoid a residential street in Newton.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Sparta police said in a Facebook post it was assisting Newton police with an investigation in the area of South Shore Trail.

No active threat to public safety was identified, police said, although residents were told to avoid the area “if possible.”

Sparta police posted an update announcing the investigation was completed at around 5:49 p.m.

“We would like to thank the public for your cooperation and thank our law enforcement partners for assisting us with this investigation,” police said.

The nature of the investigation was not immediately made public.
