Super-Sized Trout Soon Coming To Sussex County Waters Near You

Big trout ripe for fishing will be stocked in waters across Sussex County October 11.

It's a-fishin' season and some say there's no place better to catch a nice piece of fish than the northeast.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife will start stocking 16 streams and 21 ponds across the state with more than 20,000 trout from the Pequest Trout Hatchery. The rainbow trout to be stocked will measure between 14 and 22 inches and weigh in at anywhere from 1.5 to 8 pounds.

The stocking will begin on October 11 with streams and then continue the following week in ponds and lakes, including portions of the Paulins kill, Pequest, Big Flat Brook, and Wall Kill rivers. According to the Pequest Hatchery, New Jersey also boasts two Trophy Trout Lakes, one of which nourished a 32-pounder, currently the state record.
