Support Steady For Family Of Sussex Co. Teen Killed In Car Crash

WANTAGE, NJ - Family and friends who were preparing to celebrate the upcoming graduation of Jonathan Fett on Friday, are now instead in mourning, with friends currently fundraising to help Fett’s family with funeral expenses; and to establish a scholarship in his name.

Fett, 18, was killed on Sunday in a car crash where he lived throughout his life in Wantage, which remains under investigation, according to the New Jersey Herald.

New Jersey State Police reported to the Herald that another car hit Fett’s driver side door as Fett was at the intersection of Routes 519 and 650 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, with neither the unidentified other driver nor their passenger hurt.

As of Monday afternoon, Malina Bennett, who started a GoFundMe for Fett’s family, had exceeded the $20,000 goal for his funeral expenses by more than $5,000. As funds continue to pour in, Bennett said they’ll be used for gift cards to buy meals for his family, as well as paper goods.

She also wrote on the GoFundMe page that monies raised will go directly to Fett’s mother, Sandi Fett, who will establish a scholarship in her son’s memory.

According to his obituary, Fett planned to enlist in the Marine Corps.

He was mourned by Morris Sussex Sports in a Facebook Post, with the athletic Fett having been involved with lacrosse, football and weightlifting while he was in school, his obituary stated.

Per his obituary, he liked to fish, deer hunt, music, troubleshooting car issues, helping his friends, spending time with his family and animals.

He worked at both Hampton’s Brodhecker Farm and Wantage’s Katterman Farm, his obituary read.
