Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Sussex County

The National Weather Service issued a severe weather warning for a wide swath of New Jersey as hail, wind and rain batter the region.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Sussex County Saturday night as quarter-sized hail and wind gusts capable of knocking over trees and power lines batter the region.

The warning was issued for 7:24 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph is moving across the region. Residents were advised to take cover.

Authorities reported large hail capable near Lebanon and northwest of Somerville.

"Minor damage to vehicles is possible," warned the weather service. "Wind damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible."

Throughout New Jersey, areas included in the severe weather warning are: Newton, Dover, Hopatcong, Hackettstown, Wharton, Rockaway, Mount Arlington, Franklin, Mendham, High Bridge, Stanhope, Hamburg, Netcong, Clinton, Peapack And Gladstone, Ogdensburg, Chester, Victory Gardens, Lebanon and Califon.

The weather service also warned of hazardous conditions on highways, including I-78 between mile markers 16 and 30 and I-80 between mile markers 19 and 37.
