SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out this list of goings-on in Sussex County, where there’s a focus on having fun over what will be a long holiday weekend for some, as the country celebrates Independence Day and July 4th, beginning on Friday and running through the remainder of the weekend.

Fourth of July Festivities
There are Independence Day happenings throughout Sussex County and the region over the entire weekend, with several fireworks displays (including one at the Miners’ game), parades, kids’ crafts and story time, a Declaration of Independence reading and more. Check them all out here.
Live Music and Food Truck Festivities
Milk Street Distillery again hosts a fun weekend event at 1 Milk Street in Branchville. Cousins Maine Lobster is planning to head over to the distillery from 1 to 8 p.m. with their famously, mouth-watering lobster entrees. Then at 7 p.m., Moving Company hits the stage with their renditions of songs by Elton John, Phish, Paul Simon and more.

Shop At A Farmer’s Market
Sussex County has several community farmers' markets countywide, some making weekly and others twice-monthly appearances every month, with local produce, meats, dairy, honey and other items.
In Hopatcong though, the Hopatcong Marketplace kicks off the “first Sunday” of its “first Sundays” weekends, with their tradition of having their once monthly market every Sunday. At each, there are 65 vendors expected. See full details here.
The Sussex County Farmers Market is open at the Fairgrounds, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Why not take in both the farmers market and Rock, Ribs & Ridges at the Fairgrounds on Saturday?
The indoor market, at the Sussex County Fairgrounds, runs every Saturday through October, with local seasonal produce, eggs, meats, dairy, wine and other Jersey Grown and Jersey Fresh offerings.
The Sparta Farmers Market is also on every Saturday at 89 Sparta Avenue, boasting more than 20 local growers, makers, bakers and farmers, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fresh local produce, handmade cheeses, breads, pasture-raised meats, eggs and more are in the market’s lineup.
The Hopatcong Marketplace is another Saturday local market option this weekend, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, located in the Walgreens Shopping Center parking lot at 47 Hopatchung Road. This weekend, the House of Guenther is providing musical entertainment. The Marketplace is a blend of flea market items, from candles to pet products to jewelry to home decor to collectibles to direct sales companies and more. Queen of the Hill Farm, Jersey Pickles, A Slice of New Jersey Pizza, Rita’s Italian ice and the BBQ Pit Catering Company are just a few vendors and eateries that are frequently there. Catch A Baseball Game
The Sussex County Miners hit the field twice this weekend at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, first on Friday against the New Jersey Jackals at 7 p.m. Then they go another round with the Jackals on Sunday at 6 p.m., with their fireworks display and special Hometown Heroes Night, when local fire, police and EMS units join them for a parade around the ball park and for what they call the “largest fireworks of the season.” Watch Todd “Toddfather” Frazier, former Yankees third baseman who’s playing for the team as training for Tokyo’s Summer Olympics. Enjoy Some Tunes
Here are just a few places to hear some great music over the weekend.
Patrick’s Pub on 470 River Styx Road is hosting musical performers all weekend long. On Friday, it’s Stage Fright starting at 8 p.m. The Gripes hits the stage at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Jukebox Trio kicks off some 4th of July fun on Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. with 70s and 80s party hits.
Sean O’Flynn will be playing at Kites in Minerals Resort in Vernon, located at 2 Chamonix Drive, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Cruise Over To A Car Show
Sussex County has two car shows happening on Saturday. Weather-permitting, the Godfather Gang Summer Cruise-In takes place each Saturday outside of Friendly’s in the Hampton Plaza parking lot on Route 206 in Newton, beginning at 2 p.m. and running until sunset. Every week, there are classic cars that cruise in to the lot, bringing music, prizes and fun. Contact [email protected] for more information or visit the car club on Facebook.
Jumboland Saturday Cruise-In is also each Saturday at the Jumboland Diner at 438 Route 206 in Branchville, from 3 p.m. until close with the Sussex County Wanderers Car Club. Each Saturday the car show is on, there's DJ Doc South and a show trophy for autos in the show. Jumboland also has picnic tables and an open air pavilion.
