HOPATCONG, NJ — With the holiday weekend ahead and summer overall an ideal time to refresh with some creamy goodness, Hopatcong boasts some ice cream choices at different places for the Independence Day weekend and beyond.

Each person in the United States eats about 23 gallons of ice cream on an average each year, which was among the reasons why the International Dairy Foods Association says July was set by Presidential Proclamation in 1984 as National Ice Cream Month, with the third Sunday in July celebrated as National Ice Cream Day.

It’s not always on land where you’ll find a tasty treat and if you’re on the water, look for Ice Cream A Float, with all your ice cream favorites by boat. Ice Cream A Float is known for their friendly ice cream deliveries and can be found virtually on Facebook and Instagram.

Main Lake Market is another place to cruise up on Prospect Point or drive to on 234 South New Jersey Avenue. On the market’s second floor, they have their ice cream parlor and toy shop. Call ahead for pick up at 973-663-0544. On Main Lake Market’s menu, there are breakfast and lunch items to go, with hot and cold sandwiches. As for their sweet treats, they can serve up ice cream in cones, cups, milkshakes and sundaes. They also have specialty treats like frozen hot chocolate.

On the road, there’s the Jefferson Dairy, a favorite on Route 15 South, specializing in homemade ice creams since 1969. Jefferson Dairy features hard and soft ice creams, with choices that are dairy-free, fat free and sugar-free too. They also have cakes and other ice cream treats.

Cliff’s Homemade Ice Cream is another nearby favorite on Route 46 West in Ledgewood. The well-known ice cream stand with outdoor picnic tables has over 70 flavors, ice cream cakes and has won top honors from ice cream reviewers. Cliff’s boasts seasonal flavors, as well as standards, with 11 types of soft ice creams on its extensive menu.
