Chris Smith Turns His Back on NJ Again

Smith voted against the compromise HEROES Act, denying NJ families desperately needed aid.

Chris Smith turned his back on NJ again last week when he voted against the compromise HEROES Act. The bill included aid for state and local governments, an extension of the $600-a-week increase in unemployment benefits, assistance to renters and homeowners to avoid evictions and foreclosures, expanded SNAP benefits, funding for the Postal Service and election security, additional $1200 stimulus payments to Americans, and a repeal of the SALT cap.

Why wouldn’t Smith stand up for NJ in our time of need? What will he say to families facing income and food insecurity? What about public workers who may lose their jobs without aid to state and local governments?

And imagine what all of those families will do if Trump’s revamped Supreme Court eliminates the Affordable Care Act, a law Smith opposed for years and opposed expanding in June.
It’s no wonder momentum is gathering behind Smith’s opponent, Stephanie Schmid. She supported the original HEROES Act, and supports healthcare legislation that automatically enrolls uninsured/underinsured individuals in a safety-net program while allowing people to keep private plans. Stephanie will fight for NJ families with her voice and her vote, and wouldn’t turn her back on us in a crisis.
