LIVINGSTON, NJ — If you owned the “average” home in Livingston during 2020, you paid about $16,005 in property taxes, according to the latest round of state data.

  • Average Residential Property Value – $704,754
  • Average Total Property Taxes - $16,005
  • Percentage Decrease From 2019 –1.15%

A property owner’s taxes are composed of three parts: county, school and municipal. Here’s how it broke down in Livingston in 2020:

  • Total Levy On Which Tax Rate Is Computed - $195,224,559
  • Total County Levy – 21%
  • Total School Levy - 60.2%
  • Total Municipal Tax Levy - 18.7%

Statewide, New Jersey property taxes rose an average of 1 percent between 2019 and 2020, going from $8,953 to $9,112. The tax data tables also show that tax ratables rose 2 percent statewide since 2019, an increase above the five- and 10-year historical averages, with total ratables now at $1.118 trillion.
