NJ Governor Declares State of Emergency; Heavy Snow Expected

Livingston Public Schools closed on Thursday, March 5.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie declared a state of emergency Wednesday evening in anticipation of an oncoming winter storm.

The potential storm has already inspired several winter weather warnings from the National Weather Service, which is now predicting snow accumulation of four to seven inches in Eastern Essex County and Hudson County, and two to five inches in Western Essex County.

“Tonight’s storm is expected to produce travel hazards and potentially cause power outages throughout the state,” stated Christie on his Twitter page. “Staying off the roads will allow our first responders and public safety officials to be able to safely respond to any emergency situations.”
