Brenda 'Bunny' Mayo, A 'Mom To Many,' Dedicated Nurse, Dies At 77

Services for the longtime Long Branch resident will be held on Wednesday

Brenda "Bunny" Mayo of Long Branch died on July 31, 2018. She was 77.

Here is her story. She was an amazing woman who was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. She was a safe harbor, friend, and of course a mom to many who needed one. Her nest was never empty.

Her story began on September 19, 1940, in Long Branch, N.J. She was the eldest child of eight children to John and Georgia Jones. She was a graduate of Long Branch High School in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Wesley Mayo, that same year. Shortly after, they spent several years in Germany while Wesley was deployed with the army.

Bunny and Wesley eventually settled back in Long Branch where they have resided for over 50 years. She received an associates degree in nursing from Brookdale Community College. She worked as a registered nurse at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. As a young teenage girl, she became a parishioner of St James Episcopal Church in Long Branch. Bunny was an active and vital member of the church until her last days.

She leaves behind her husband Wesley Sr.; her daughter Belinda; son Wesley Jr. and wife Yvette; son Chris and wife Eleanor; daughter Kischa; daughter Julie and husband Patrick; son Arron; son Lee and wife Migdalia. She was the nana of all nanas and leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and joins her precious granddaughter Ariana Jasmine in the gardens of heaven.

A memorial gathering will be held at St James Episcopal Church, 300 Broadway, Long Branch, N.J. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Requiem Mass at noon.
