EATONTOWN, NJ — The shortage is over. Chicken sandwiches will soon return to Popeyes, including the Eatontown location.

Popeyes introduced its chicken sandwich this summer. It was so popular that it became sold out within months. But the chain announced the sandwich is returning Sunday, throwing some shade at Chick-fil-A in its Monday video announcement.

The Sunday return is a shot at Chick-fil-A, which is closed on Sundays. When Popeyes introduced the sandwich this summer, it sparked a debate comparing both restaurants.

But then Popeyes declared a shortage Aug. 27, removing it from the menu. They're not worried about a shortage this time around though. Franchisees have also worked to increase staffing so they can serve guests in a timely manner.

“We are confident that we’ll be able to meet the demand,” Bruno Cardinali, Popeyes’s head of marketing for North America, told CNN Business.
