A Decent Labor Day Ahead For Monmouth County Beaches

The rip current risk is low, waves will be from 2 to 3 feet, National Weather Service says

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ - Here it is, folks. The beach weather report for the last unofficial summer day at the Jersey Shore.

Skies will be partly sunny, with highs in the mid 80s. Winds will be from the south at 5 to 10 miles per hour. And it will be humid. The humidity isn't going anywhere for the next several days. There is no lightning threat today.

The rip current risk is low. But rips can still occur anytime, anyplace, especially near jetties and other structures. So make sure you always swim on a guarded beach. Most beaches will still be guarded today, but that will change by tomorrow. Never swim alone or at night.

Patch will publish a list of beaches that will still be guarded on weekends and some on weekdays on Tuesday. We will continue to publish the beach weather report until the end of September. September, as the locals know, is the best month at the Jersey Shore.

Waves will start out at 2 feet today, gradually building to 3 feet in the afternoon. Swells will be from the east at 2 feet, becoming light. The ocean water temperature is 74 degrees, but that may vary depending upon what beach you visit. The National Weather Service advises that you always have a flotation device with you in the water.

The ultraviolet index is a 7, which the National Weather Service considers high. Don't forget your sunscreen.

Low tide at Belmar arrived at 7:14 a.m. High tide will roll in at 1:43 p.m., followed by another low tide at 8:34 p.m.
